Le pianiste phénoménal Yuja Wang se charge du solo du Concerto pour piano et vents entraînant de Stravinski.\n« La période la plus terrible de l’histoire s’est finalement achevée », a écrit Richard Strauss à la fin de la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Ses « Metamorphosen », une composition datant des journées les plus sombres du conflit, sont une réflexion personnelle sur l’annihilation totale causée par la guerre. Du point de vue musical, l’œuvre signalait un changement de cap, car il n’avait pas l’habitude de produire des sonorités d’une telle noirceur, et surtout aussi intimes.\nLe génie de Stravinski s’exprimait surtout au travers de son pouvoir d’invention original. En entamant en 1923 l’écriture d’un Concerto pour piano et orchestre, il avait eu l’idée de réduire l’effectif de l’orchestre aux seuls vents. À sa création à l’Opéra de Paris en mai 1924, avec le chef d’orchestre Serge Koussevitzky et Stravinski comme soliste, le concerto avait remporté un grand succès. Le compositeur aimait tellement l’œuvre qu’il a gardé pendant cinq ans l’exclusivité des droits d’exécution.\nEt l’orchestre nous réserve une surprise supplémentaire : l’auteur-compositeur-interprète et violoncelliste Ayanna Witter-Johnson interprétera sa chanson « Unconditionally » accompagnée par l’orchestre.
