»Not for 1000 gulden« would he write this symphony again, Anton Bruckner admitted to one of his students. His Fifth Symphony is a monolith of solitude and silence, of doubt and struggle, but it also creates powerful, never-ending streams of energy. This masterpiece of instrumentation, revealing the depths of the soul and its rise to freedom, was a work Bruckner himself never got to hear. Meanwhile, François-Xavier Roth is one step further in his concert cycle called »Bruckner the Modern«. Georg Friedrich Haas, too, is no stranger to dark introspection. Using over 100 pieces of metal he collected from junk yards, he put together a fascinating instrumentarium for the sorcerer/percussionist Christoph Sietzen. The result is a Klangwerk (work of sound) which notches lines into space and turns sounds into blazing colours.
