He was born in Oranienburg, Russia, in 1882, when horse-drawn carriages were still a main form of transport, and he died in New York City in 1971, when the Americans were celebrating their second moon landing. As incredibly rich as the period of Igor Stravinsky’s life is in terms of events and developments, his work is diverse and groundbreaking. On April 6, 2021, on the 50th anniversary of his death, we will remind the composer and his work with a concert marathon – and also the conductor Stravinsky: 90 years ago he conducted the Gürzenich Orchestra in Cologne with his own works.

The pieces of the musical marathon finds its venues almost by itself: the Cologne Philharmonie for the great orchestral works, the Museum Ludwig for chamber music and for the »Ragtime« Cologne’s oldest jazz bar Papa Joes’s Klimperkasten.

François-Xavier Roth will moderate the stream live and has invited guests, including Yilmaz Dziewior, the director of the Museum Ludwig.
